Folios 182-183: William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Responds to an Admiralty Order that a general impress should take place in the neighbourhood on the night of 6th May. Advises that out of a great number of men examined, only a few have been detained who came within the description contained in the order. Explains that there was only one ship in the harbour with a Protection on board and that he did not interfere with the Keelmen or Watermen as they have provided their quota as an exemption.
