Description

Folios 164-165: William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Reports on the case of James Pyman who was impressed at Shields on 5 April 1805 and whose release has been applied for by James Harrison on the grounds that Pyman was the Mate onboard the ship and therefore exempt from impressment. States that enclosed Affidavit is not to be depended on.

Folios 166-167: enclosure with folios 164-165. Affidavit dated 5 April 1805, by James Harrison, Ship Owner and Daniel Adamson, Master Mariner, both of Whitby, Yorkshire, sworn at South Shields before Nicholas Fairlies, Justice of Peace for County Durham. State that James Pyman was, at the time of his impressment, Chief Mate of the ship the Resource of Whitby and due to proceed with the Resource from Shields to London. Describe how the payment of the crew's wages will be affected if he is not released. David Grant member of the press gang and Michael Harrison, son of James Harrison also mentioned.

Folio 167: enclosure with folios 164-165. Letter dated 5 April 1805, by James Harrison, at South Shields to the Admiralty. Requests the release of James Pyman, Mate of the resource.
