Description

Folios 130-131: William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Requests consideration is given to directing that all Affidavits on matters relating to granting protections and exemptions from the Impress Service, are made before a magistrate or Master in Chancery and in the presence of a competent person. Describes the circumstances surrounding the impressment and release of 2 men, Thomas Wardle and James Light , who produced the enclosed exemption certificates stating they were apprentices even though both had served years at sea. States he was advised by Mr Bicknell, Agent, that as the Certificates were signed by 2 witnesses, there is nothing that can be done.

Folios 132-133: enclosure with folios 130-131. Protection Certificate, dated 15 April 1803, for Thomas Wardle. States Thomas Wardle, aged 20, is bound as an Apprentice to Thomas Dunn of South Shields, by an indenture dated 21 March 1803. Contains physical description of Thomas Wardle.

Folios 134-135; enclosure with folios 130-131. Protection Certificate, dated 15 April 1803, for James Light. States James Light, aged 17, is bound as an Apprentice to Thomas Dunn of South Shields, by an indenture dated 21 March 1803. Contains physical description of James Light.
