Folios 29-30: Charles Cobb, HMS Glatton, Yarmouth Roads. Vice Admiral Dickson [Archibald Dickson] sailed yesterday in HMS Monarch with, under his command, HMS Belliquex, Ardent, Veteran and the hired cutters Griffin and Hazard. This ship remained in port with HMS Isis, Kent, Circe, Jalouse and Phoenix lugger. In the afternoon HMS Speculator arrived from her cruise off Flamborough Head, followed by HMS Liberty, having two vessels in her charge, which had been stopped by the squadron under Captain [Robert] McDowall and a letter to Vice Admiral Dickson [Archibald Dickson], which he is sending. HMS Phoenix sailed this morning to join the Vice Admiral. At 6pm the Vangeur French cutter privateer came in, she had 12 guns, 98 men and was taken by HMS Martin off the Skaw. There were two other ships with her but they escaped, they were one day out from Norway. The Master of HMS Martin gave him a letter from Captain St. Clair [Matthew St. Clair] to Admiral Dickson. Later Lieutenant Glenville, HMS Ranger arrived with the Johanna from Hamburg bound for Lisbon, sent in on suspicion of being bound into the Fly and supposed Dutch property. HMS Busy arrived. On Sunday 5th May HMS Nancy should have left with the letters from Admiral Dickson but a vessel ran on board of her and carried away her bowsprit, he will send HMS Speculator instead.
Folios 31-32: enclosure in folios 29-30. Letter dated 3 May 1799 by Captain Robert McDowall, HMS Ganges, at sea, to Vice Admiral Archibald Dickson. There is no alteration Texel, is sending Captain Bligh's report, which supports his findings. Asks for two more ships to be added to the Squadron.
Folios 33-34: enclosure in folios 29-30. Letter dated 25 April 1799 by Captain Matthew St. Clair, HMS Martin, at sea, to Vice Admiral Archibald Dickson. Notice of his safe arrival at Elsinore. He found the Roads full of ice and no trade coming from the north, having information of privateers off the coast of Norway he made his way there. He saw three vessels, gave chase and captured one cutter, the Vangeur, commanded by Citizen Charles Tack. A fine vessel, new from Christiansand, he released the prisoners but was unable to catch the other vessels.
Folios 35-36: enclosure in folios 29-30. Letter dated 2 May 1799 by Captain William Bligh, HMS Director, to Captain Robert McDowall, Senior Officer of the Texel. Report on the number of enemy ships seen lying to the north and east of the Helder. He saw 16 two deck ships in a state of preparation for sea.
Folios 37-38: enclosure in folios 29-30. Letter dated 2 May 1799 by Captain Robert McDowall, HMS Ganges, at sea, to Vice Admiral Archibald Dickson. Since his letter of 27 April 1799 there is nothing new in the Texel, there are three ships in New Deep ready to come out which will make 17 sail. HMS Monmouth and Madras joined him today.
