Folios 400-401: John Clements, Sea Fencibles, Leith. Captain Brenton has complained about his actions over the order he gave to Lieutenant Wright to discharge Andrew Meldrum belonging to HMS Pincher from the Deptford tender. Lieutenant Black of HMS Pincher gave Meldrum shore leave. Black was ordered to Texel with urgent dispatches for Lord Duncan from General Vyse and Captain Bradby on HMS Ariadne. Meldrum was taken by the Press at Fisherow and put on the Deptford tender. Although Clements saw Captain Brenton everyday it was never mentioned that Meldrum had behaved impertinently so it could not be put right easily without troubling the Navy. His flagship, HMS Mastiff, was here and he was senior Officer when he gave the order for Meldrum to be discharged.
