Folios 254-255: George Countess, HMS Ethalion, Guernsey Roads. Report that, having been ordered to Guernsey by Admiral Sir Peter Parker, he was passing through the Needles when the ship struck on the Bridge Shoal. He did not think the vessel was damaged, but on arrival in Guernsey he discovered damage to the False Keel which will make it necessary for the ship to be docked for repair. He will await orders, but thinks it will be dangerous for the ship to remain for long without repair. He had chosen to go through the Needles because the wind was strongly from the South East and he thought that his orders were urgent.
