Folios 240-241: Isaac Cotgrave, HMS Volcano, Stonehouse Pool. He was asked to report on his ship's sailing qualities. Since leaving Woolwich he has observed that she sails reasonably well, but not particularly well when sailing to windward, and that he had no trouble in keeping up with the convoy from the Downs. He thinks the ship's complement is too small to work her efficiently, and has observed that she rides very heavily to anchor and that the anchors are too small for the size of the vessel. During a recent gale he noticed that the bomb vessels HMS Tartarus and HMS Hecla had also brought home their anchors, and thinks this is because their anchors are also too light.
Folio 241: Cover for Folio 240.
