Folios 225-226: James Cornwallis, HMS Sheerness, Spithead. Encloses a letter from the Purser, J J Lanyon about the supply of tobacco for the ship's company.
Folios 227-228: enclosed with folios 225-226. Letter dated 4 February from J J Lanyon, Purser, HMS Sheerness, to Captain James Cornwallis. He has been ordered to issue tobacco to the crew, but questions whether he should be buying it at the current price because when he issues it, he will receive no more than he has paid for it. Therefore he cannot secure tobacco at the price now being asked.
