Folios 201-202: Edward Henry Columbine, the Sea Fencibles, Hastings. Reports that nine fishing boats from Hasting have been captured by French privateers while the cutter which usually protects them was being repaired at Rye. On 16 November 1798, the hired armed cutter HMS Dolphin came in to Hastings, and he asked her commander, Mr Jarrett, to pay particular attention to the fishing boats. Mr Jarrett said he could do this while carrying out his orders to cruise between Dungeness and Fairlight, but after standing by the fishing boats that night, he has not been seen again. If she had remained on station the French lugger which had already been seen in the area could not have taken the fishing boats. Asks for another vessel to be sent as soon as possible to protect the fishermen.
