Folios 135-136: Cuthbert Collingwood, HMS Excellent, Spithead. Has not received a reply to his letter asking that John Fleming be confirmed as Boatswain of his ship and enclosing the order from the Commander in Chief for him to act in that post. The previous Boatswain, Peter Peffers, was killed in action with the Spanish fleet on 14 February 1797, and Mr Fleming immediately took his place. His good service prompted Captain Collingwood to ask Admiral the Earl St Vincent to continue him in that post.
