Folios 289-290: Charles Cotton, HMS Mars, Chatham. Reports receipt of printed letter dated 18 May 1797 from the Victualling Office about the full issuing of provisions without deductions, vis. twelve ounces served instead of formerly eight ounces. Sends copies of Admiral Buckner’s order and one his from Secretary. He awaits their Lordships orders writing to them instead of Admiral Buckner to save time.
Folio 291: enclosed with folios 289-290. Letter dated 6 May 1797 by Ben Stowe, HMS Sandwich, the Nore. Copy of Vice Admiral Buckner’s order to Captain Countess, HMS Ethalion, HMS Argonaut, HMS Hero, HMS Bristol and HMS Eagle. Order respecting the issue of cheese at the rate of sixteen ounces to the pound.
Folio 292: enclosed in folios 289-290. Copy order dated 3 May 1797 by Vice Admiral Charles Buckner, Vice Admiral of the White, ships at the Buoy of the Nore and Medway, to Captain Countess. Directed to cause cheese of the present quality issued to be to the ship’s crew at sixteen ounces to the pound.
