Folios 287-288: Charles Cotton, HMS Mars, Chatham. Reports Philip Myers, appointed Carpenter has not joined the ship and that he is much wanted because of the stores. He is induced to request Thomas Crockford, Carpenter at Chatham yard, the late acting Carpenter is appointed. The Commissioner, Builder, Master Attendant and Officers recommend his high character, ability and diligence. Says he appears to be the son of a Warrant Officer.
