Folios 265-266: James Cornwallis, HMS Sheerness, Portsmouth. Requests another else is appointed to the room of John Lovett, junior Lieutenant. He has been at sick quarters since they arrived at port and his Surgeon says he is not likely to be able to return to sea.
Folios 267-268: enclosed with folios 265-266. Letter dated 19 December 1797 by Lieutenant George Wright, 1st Lieutenant of Marines, on board HMS Sheerness. Says the reason he was left behind was because when he was appointed he to HMS Sheerness he labored under a long pecuniary embarrassment in consequence of losses he sustained by a long captivity in France. Has rejoined the ship and been received by Captain Cornwallis. Seeks approval.
