Folios 226-227: John Cooke, HMS Quebec, Portchester. Acknowledges letter of 1st informing him there were three other applications for Officer’s sons besides his. Although his name would be put on a list their letter was not received till he had visited the Royal Academy at Portsmouth yesterday where he learnt there had been a vacancy for about a month and another would be available before Christmas and that no one has been examined for admission. Says their Lordships sent his son’s qualification to Sir Charles Saxton a fortnight ago. Says it is a pity such a good foundation remains unoccupied. Seeks directions about whether an official application should be made.
