Folios 222-226: Captain John Cooke, HMS Quebec, Portsmouth and Portchester. Says he has only a Captains pay on which to bring up and educate five children. Requests his eldest son, now a proper age, is entered on the new Establishment at the Royal Academy at Portsmouth. He is aware that Sir George Collier and Rear Admiral Mitchell’s claims, he understands have both been given up. Encloses the necessary certificates.
Folio 224: enclosed in folios 222-226. Letter dated 25 October 1797 by E. Evans, Curate, Parish of Portsmouth, Southampton county. Copy of Baptism certificate; John, son of John Cooke and Catherine Lloyd Cooke, baptized 18 October 1786, Portsmouth.
Folio 225: enclosed in folios 222-226. Statement dated 24 August 1797 by William Shelton. Certificate; John Cooke, Captain John Cooke’s son was a boarder at his school from 1 August 1795 - 30 July 1797. He appears to be a boy of good morals and behavior.
