Folios 204-205: James Colnett. Is concerned to learn obstacles prevent his being paid traveling expenses. He spent more than what he was given to entertain the persons he was ordered to work for information. Reminds that the Service he was employed on was very distinct from that of other Officers and that Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Lincolnshire are not in the habit of talking to Naval Officers. He had verbal orders to cultivate intimacy with those who well informed on local points and he did not hesitate in his purpose when it came to offering a tippling refreshment at the Inns where they occasionally met him. Says he was allowed his subsistence charges during his partial survey of Essex in 1795. Asks that his account may be allowed.
