Folios 177-178: William Collis, HMS Dromedary, Gravesend reach. Departed from the Nore last Friday but with the wind being directly up swim he and HMS Warrior had to moor between the Knoll and Girdler buoys. When the gale set eastward, shifting to about NE yesterday it snapped his best bower cable. He immediately let go of his small best bower anchor and sheet anchors to bring up the ship. At noon he discovered his small bower cable was stranded. The pilot expressed the danger the ship was in as they were only a cable length from the sand and on an ebb tide. With night coming he sailed trying to find a port of safety for his Officers and crew. Seeks approval for his not going to Sheerness as with only one anchor, the Pilot observed, it was too crowded. He took care to bond the rest of the cable to his spare anchor and will send to Woolwich immediately for other anchors.
