Folios 491-492: Edmund Crawley, HMS Lion, Portsmouth. Responds to the letter of 9 April and sends the certificate of Samuel McKnight, Midshipman.
Folios 493-494: enclosure with folios 491-491. Certificate dated 22 April 1782 and signed by Richard Goggin, Gregory Gifford, and [?] Collier, Master Gunners of HMS Glory, HMS Kent and HMS Caesar, and countersigned by John Nosper, Teacher of the Mathematics, in respect of Samuel McKnight, Acting Gunner of HMS Cambridge, who has been examined according to directions of Paul Henry Ourry, Commissioner at Plymouth, in listed categories. Confirms that he has produced a certificate from Captain B Douglas, under whom he has served, testifying to his conduct, and also from the Principal Officers and Commissioners showing that he has served 4 years, 1 week and 6 days at sea, and that he is qualified to be Master Gunner on any third rate vessel.
