Folios 475-476: William Edward Crarcraft, HM Aquilon, Spithead. Conveys his apologies, having been informed by Sir Alan Gardner that he is the subject of displeasure. He wishes it to be known that his failure to pay proper respect to the flag of Sir Hyde Parker arose not through neglect and was not intentional. The calm conditions and excessively strong tide at St Helens required him to exercise utmost care to avoid collision with the numerous vessels lying at that place.
