Description

Folios 443-444: George Countess, HMS Daedalus, Cape Coast Castle. Reports that several members of the crew of Diana of Liverpool, Master John Pince, have asked to be taken on board HMS Daedalus because of cruel treatment from the Master and Chief Mate. Encloses a copy of the crews' petition statements taken from each of them, made on oath before the Governor of Cape Coast Castle, the Council, and Captain Countess, in case of any complaint made against Captain Countess by Liverpool merchants. Captain Countess understands that Master John Pince has complained about him, although he has offered assistance, which has been declined. Captain Countess has written a full account for the owners and sent them a copy of the Peoples Petition and the statements, having kept the originals for his own records.
