Folios 417-418: Charles Cotton, HMS Mars, Spithead. Encloses a letter from Mr Birtwhistle, Surgeon of HMS Mars, relating to his attendance on six wounded soldiers sent aboard HMS Mars by order of Vice Admiral Cornwallis, and related expenses. Captain Cotton confirms the details and requests that Mt Birtwhistle is reimbursed.
Folios 419-420: enclosure with folios 417-418. John Birtwhistle, HMS Mars, Spithead to Captain Cotton. Reports that six badly wounded men from the Regiment of Lowenstein were received from HMS Royal Sovereign on 5 March and landed at Portsmouth on 15 March. During their time on board he attended them and covered all their treatment at his own expense. Requests application is made for reimbursement for his expenses.
