Folios 415-416: enclosure with folios 413-414. Thomas Benoist, Master's Mate, HMS Mars, Spithead, 4 February 1796, to the Navy Board. Requests an appointment as Gunner, having served for 6 years and qualified as a gunner some time ago. He can provide on request certificates from the various Captains he has served under. He has a young family to support and would like to secure their future.
