Folios 401-402: John Cooke, HMS Quebec, Spithead. Reports that he was replaced as Captain of HMS Alarm on 27 July 1795 by order of Sir John Laforey, because he had been appointed to HMS Quebec by Vice Admiral Caldwell. He was prevented from joining her by his detachment, and was required to make his own way to England, arriving on 1 October 1795. He finally took command of HMS Quebec on 1 January 1796, and received neither full or half pay for the period 27 July 1795 to 1 January 1796. As he did not choose to leave HMS Alarm, requests consideration of his case for payment.
