Folios 189-190: John Clements, HMS Spitfire, Spithead. His explanation for impressing Thomas Arlott and William Emery late belonging to the brigantine Kingston of Southampton, employed in the southern whaling fishery was that whilst laying in Carrick Road, Falmouth, the Kingston arrived from the southern fishery and he sent his Lieutenant aboard who returned with 7 men, 3 of whom, namely Thomas Arlott, William Emery and Joseph Alexander, immediately entered for the ship. The others being foreigners were returned to the ship. Thomas Arlott and Joseph Alexander have since received the bounty of £5 each as would have William Emery had he been on board when the Clerk of the Cheque came but he gave him permission to go to Southampton at the request of the owners of the Kingston to swear some papers relating to her cargo.
