Folios 476-477: Alexander Inglis Cochrane, HMS Northumberland, Bear Haven, Bantry Bay. As directed he has examined the cases of Frederick Widmark and Peter Carson. Widmark was discharged into HMS Salvador del Mundo and then sent on shore, as he was a foreigner. Carson is aboard the ship and matches the description the Admiralty have given him, he has not received a bounty but had drawn two months' wages and has been supplied with Slops as he was in need of clothing. Presumes the Admiralty will not want to discharge him until this debt is cleared. The cases of ulcers among the crew continue to increase, and he will be putting 40 of the worst cases ashore tomorrow. The Surgeons are of the opinion that unless they are all landed, the affliction will spread to the whole crew. He still has not been able to establish the cause of this outbreak. His ship is now short of men, and the Surgeon says those who are being landed will not be fit for duty for at least two months.
