Folios 474-475: Alexander Inglis Cochrane, HMS Northumberland, Bear Haven, Bantry Bay. He has shared out the stores from the Ranger transport among his squadron, and will send the transport back as soon as she is cleared and ballasted. Reports that several serious cases of ulcers have appeared aboard his ship and others in the squadron, most of them among Landsmen, thinks a hospital ship stationed in the bay would be very useful, and could double as a store ship. He has set a party of men to build sea walls to protect the watering place which had previously been constructed. A daily postal service has been established with Castletown to bring despatches for the squadron. Encloses [no longer present] a statement of the condition of his ships.
