Folios 448-449: Alexander Inglis Cochrane, HMS Northumberland. Encloses a letter from Lewis Oades, Carpenter of HMS Trump, who served with him in HMS Thetis, and was particularly helpful when the ship was being repaired at Norvolk, Virginia. Recommends him as worthy of promotion.
Folios 450-451: enclosed with folios 448-449. Letter dated 5 September 1803 from Lewis Oades, Carpenter, HMS Trump, Plymouth Dock, to Captain Alexander Cochrane, HMS Northumberland. Hopes Captain Cochrane can intercede to secure him a posting to a larger ship. At the direction of Rear Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood, certificates of his 10 years service as a warranted Carpenter, including the four years he served with Captain Cochrane in HMS Thetis, have been sent to the Admiralty.
