Folios 183-184: William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Encloses [no longer present] a protection ticket taken from a man he recently impressed. He had first come to Sunderland by the run and then to Shields to sign on for another ship. It appears that Captain Andrew Spoule [of the Sussex Sea Fencibles] had given him leave to be out of his district for one month from November 10, 1803, but he does not believe the Admiralty have given permission for such leave. The man claims he is a fisherman, but the circumstances show that he is a seaman.
