Folios 175-176: William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Can see no objection to granting Christopher Bainbridge's request on behalf of William Pollard, except that most of the Watermen recently impressed are in a similar situation, and once it becomes know that Pollard has been discharged because he has a large and young family, there will be a flood of similar requests.
Folios 177-178: enclosed with folios 175-176. Letter from Christopher Bainbridge, South Shields, to the Admiralty dated 6 December 1803. He writes on behalf of William Pollard, a Keelman who was recently impressed. Asks whether, in order to secure his discharge, Pollard needs to find an able-bodied substitute or whether he should pay a sum of money to the Regulating Captain, and if so, how much. Pollard has a wife and five children, is aged 45 and has never been a seaman.
Folio 178: [Blank].
