Folios 165-166: William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Reports that John Mathewson, Waterman, was impressed at Shields on 9 November 1803. He has already reported Mathewson's case to the Admiralty in his letter of 18 November after an application for his discharge from Lieutenant Colonel Linskell of the Tynemouth Volunteers. Refers the Admiralty to his previous letter.
Folio 167: enclosed with folios 165-166. Petition from Elizabeth Matthison, Ropery Stairs, North Shields, to the Admiralty dated 28 November 1803. She writes on behalf of her husband John Matthison and hopes he will not be taken for the Navy, since he has never been to sea but only kept to the Tinter which is in North Shields Harbour. Encloses [no longer present] a certificate and hopes her husband can be allowed to return to his duty with the North Shields and Tynemouth Volunteers, in which he was enrolled and serving at the time of his impressment.
