Folios 75-76: William Charleton, Regulating Captain, North Shields. Reports that John Young was impressed at Sunderland on 12 September 1803, and that his records show that Young was a Keelman but was impressed as he was not one of the 192 Keelmen who had agreed to raise a quota of men to serve in their places.
Folios 77-78: enclosed with folios 75-76. Petition from Messrs Lowes and Sealing of Sunderland to the Admiralty, not dated. Report that John Young, a Keelman and Master of the Keel or Lighter 2166, which they own, was recently impressed and sent aboard HMS Zealand at the Nore. Young was at sea at the time, and had signed a bond to pay his share of the cost of raising a body of seaman for the Navy. If the men bringing coal from the mines to the ships in the river are liable to impressment, they would not take on the work. Ask for Young to be discharged.
