Folios 591-592: Robert Corbet, HM Sloop Bittern, Spithead. Confirms Mr Carlisle, the appointed Gunner on the Bittern, arrived that day and produced a superannuated ticket signed by the Admiralty dated 6 December in consequence of his"blindness, age and infirmities". Believes the Warrant to be for some other person of the same name and requests the matter is rectified.
Folios 593-594: enclosure with folios 591-592. Note dated 3 January 1803. Refers to enclosed report from the Navy Office and Surgeon's College (not with papers) that Thomas Carlisle underwent an examination, resulting in his being superannuated on 6 December. Not sure how after this he was appointed to the Bittern. There are no other Thomas Carlisles on the List of Gunners.
