Folios 583-584: John Coode, HMS Bittern, Sheerness. Confirms in receipt of draught of entered men from HM Sloop Autumn. Has been told that Patrick Field had told Captain Richardson that he had elected to go to HMS Blenheim and wanted his named erased from the list of volunteers for the Bittern. The man joined on 1 October, since when he had been on three ships books as belonging to the Bittern. Understands from people who travelled with him from London that just before he was called to the Bittern he said he had heard"bad character" of the ship and would go to the Blenheim. Requests he be comannded to join the Bittern.
