Folios 260-261: Alexander Cochrane, HMS Ajax, Spithead. Encloses letter from Mr Scott, Surgeon on HMS Namur, which was the reason he wrote previous day to Admiral Milbank requesting withdrawal of his application for Mr Scott to be Court Martialled.
Folios 262-263: enclosure with folios 260-263. Letter dated 14 February 1802 from Mr Scott, HMS Namur, Spithead to Captain Cochrane. He apologises for the letter he wrote when on half pay, after the [?] was paid off. States he made this in the"moment of frenzy, spleen, mortification and disappointment". Fully recants every iota of imputation that might be construed as an attack on Captain Cochrane's reputation. Hopes he will be pardoned and Captain Cochrane will take necessary steps to stop the matter going to a Court Martial.
