Folios 127-128: enclosed with folios 125-126. Letter dated 2 July 1800 from Commander Christopher Cole, HMS Surinam, to Captain William Cayley of HMS Invincible. Encloses a copy of the letter he has sent to the Commander in Chief, hopes that other officers can avoid the misfortune he has suffered even though he was not careless about taking care of the private signals.
Folio 129: enclosed with folios 127-128. Copy of a letter dated 30 June 1800 from Commander Christopher Cole, HMS Surinam, off Dominique, to Admiral Lord Seymour. Reports that this morning when he went looking for the private day signals to be used between His Majesty's ships, he discovered that the signal list was missing. He can only think that there was some accident to the box they were kept in, or else that somebody discovered where he kept them. Asks for an inquiry into his conduct.
