Description

Folios 383-384: Robert Barrie, HMS Barrie, Plymouth Sound. Asks for the R to be removed from Laurence Wilson who has not been paid for his service on his former ship, HMS Euryalus. He had been sent from the Mediterranean to Plymouth Hospital on HMS San Josef and on his recovery went on board HMS Prince Frederick, then HMS Salvador del Mundo followed by HMS Impregnable. On a month's leave to go to Wexford he fell ill again and was marked run. Encloses certificates which account for his absence.

Folios 384-385: enclosed with folios 383-384. Certificate by Ambrose Boxwell, Surgeon, County Infirmary, confirming Laurence Wilson's detention due to a severe attack of pleurisy and a certificate by Lieutenant James Atkins, Wexford dated 15 March 1815, confirming Laurence Wilson, HMS Impregnable, proceeded to Ballahack on 16 March to procure a passage on HMS Actaeon.

Folios 386-388: enclosed with folios 383-384. Certificate dated 8 July 1815 by Ambrose Boxwell, Surgeon, County Infirmary, confirming Laurence Wilson was under his care for violent pleurisy which prevented him from travelling. A further certificate from Rear Admiral Wilson confirmed that Laurence Wilson was unfit to travel to Plymouth. Further confirmation by Lieutenant James Atkins of the truth of these statements and a letter by Thomas Walsh, Wexford dated 9 July 1815 to Laurence Wilson confirming he has procured certificates from Doctor Boxwell, Admiral Wilson and Lieutenant Atkins about his illness and inability to return to his ship before his leave period had expired.
