Description

Folios 371- 373: Robert Barrie, HMS Dragon, Plymouth. Asks for 12 men, who have a genial good character and were unable to return during their leave of absence, to have the R removed from their names. Walter Badsey went on board HMS Enterprise in the River Thames and was then forwarded to HMS Dragon. Richard Evans asked to be discharged during his leave and whilst waiting for an answer, his leave period expired. John Robinson, [William?] Mell and James Sooper live in northern Scotland and were delayed in their passage back to the ship. Peter Chadwick, [?] Le Strange and [?] Johnson joined HMS Enchantress at Bristol and were forwarded by HMS Resolute to HMS Dragon. John Duffies who lives in County Donegal delivered himself to the Regulating Officer at Dublin and was sent on board HMS Resolute to join HMS Dragon. David Scott and David Simpson, natives of Scotland, returned by sea but were delayed owing to contrary winds. The former's ticket indicates his leave was extended by Isaac Watts, a Magistrate in Dundee and the latter's leave was extended by Colin Bruce, Magistrate from Arbroath. They reported to HMS Prince and then were returned to their ship. Daniel Sullivan who lives in Ireland had his leave extended by Mr. Godfrey, Magistrate for the County of Kerry, and then went on board HMS Trent in the Cove of Cork and transferred to HMS Cormorant to join his ship. Elisha Boutlaw was apprehended as a deserter at Exeter and was jailed for 3 weeks despite producing his liberty ticket.
