Description (What the record is about)
- Folios 226-227: David Ewen Bartholomew, HMS Erebus, Spithead. Advises he has received a letter from the Commissioners for Victualling asking him to use his authority to induce Mr. Scott to become Purser of HMS Erebus by proposing two respectable persons to be bound to a bond for £400 for the due discharge of trust reposed in him. Mr. Scott has not appeared or written to confirm he has any intention of joining the ship. Because of the state of health of Mr. Walker, the current Purser, it has been difficult to obtain provisions of water, wood, and they have had to borrow oatmeal. The ship will sale without coals or candles. His survey for annual accounts has been completed and he asks for a week or two to produce a set of accounts.
