Description

Folios 154-155: Adam Brown, HMS Sapphire, Portsmouth Harbour. He has been askded to give details of the Acting Gunner and Boatswain on HMS Sapphire. He encloses statements of their qualifications and history and points out that while only designated as 'acting' on his ship they were actually warranted when they were serving on HMS Shark. He reports on them favourably and asks for their positions to be confirmed.

Folio 155: enclosure with folios 154-155. An order dated 15 December 1813 from William Brown, Rear Admiral of the White, HMS Shark, Jamaica. It records that the Boatswain of HMS Sapphire, Tobias Watermain, wishes to serve on HMS Shark and so he is granting a warrant to John Smith, presently on board HMS Shark, to act as Boatswain of HMS Sapphire in order to take his place.

Foilio 156: enclosure with folios 154-155. An order dated 9 March 1814 from Willliam Brown, Rear Admiral of the White and Commander in Chief of ships and vessels in Jamaica and the Bahama Islands. He records that Thomas Harrier, gunner on HMS Sapphire wishes to transfer onto HMS Shark. The order directs Edward Atkinson to be the gunner on board HMS Sapphire in his place.

Folio 157: enclosure with folios 154-155. A warrant dated 24 July 18114 granted by Bartholomew Samuel Rowley, Admiral of the Blue to Edward Atkinson, to join HMS Shark as Gunner in the room of Mr Joseph Turner who has been transferred to HMS Sappho and in the room of James Willson who has been promoted to HMS Garland and in the room of William Franks who has gone to HMS Polyphemus and in the room of Willaim Wiseman who has died.

Folio 158: enclosure with folios 154-155. From the Admiralty Office to James Smith dated 13 June 1813 a warrant appointing him boatswain of HMS Shark.
