This is a letter to the Lords Commissioners and to the Directors of Greenwich to say that the bearer Thomas Smith Served aboard HMS Pitt and then HMS Salsette under the Captain. He was then sent to the Baltic to be part of the crew of a prize which was brought back to London. As a consequence he is entitled to prize money which he has not received. There follows a long description of his movements thereafter including being taken as a prisoner to France, as a consequence he was listed as a runaway on the books. His situation was complicated by the fact he is now old and somewhat deaf. The Captain asks that he receive his back pay and prize money and that the R beside his name be taken off the books.
