Folios 136-137: Phillip Brown, HMS Hermes, Spithead. John Heales absented himself at Plymouth pleading illness with a certificate brought by his wife. The Surgeon said he was never ill of this complaint. He was seen drunk on shore and John Lilley, Midshipman on HMS Royal William is said to have written the certificate. He is illiterate and unsuitable for a Boatswain.
Folio 137: enclosed in folios 136-137. Letter dated 13 February 1813 by Surgeon Thomas C [?], HMS Hermes, Hamoaze. John Heales has never complained of anything or been sick.
