Description

Folios 430-431: William Bennett, 6 Albion Street, Blackfriars Road. He writes in support of Samuel Thomas, Seaman, who served on HMS Amphion and who has asked that the R is removed from his name. William Bennett supports the statement made by Samuel Thomas and confirms that he is a reliable man.

Folio 432: enclosed with folios 430-431. William Bennett, 6 Albion Street, Blackfriars Road. Copy of folios 430-431.

Folios 433-434: enclosed with folios 430-431. Letter dated 16 november 1812 by Samuel Thomas, Seaman, HMS Amphion, 76 East Street, Manchester Square. An account of his life since he brought a prize into Port Royal, Jamaica in 1800. He claims that it was no fault of his that he could not return to duty and asks that the R is removed from his name so that he can receive his pay and the prize money owed to him.

Folio 434: enclosed with folios 430-431. Appointment dated 16 January 1809 by Sir John Borlase Warren, Vice Admiral of the White, Commander in Chief St. Lawrence River. Letter appointing Samuel Thomas as Cook on HMS Mistletoe. Jan 16, 1809.

Folio 435: enclosed with folios 430-431. Note dated 29 June 1800 by Richard Bennett, HMS Amphion listing Samuel Thomas as having deserted.

Folio 436: enclosed with folios 430-431. Note dated 30 April 1811 by R. Ramsay, HMS Mistletoe. Note confirming that Samuel Thomas suffers from rheumatism and is unfit for service.

Folios 437-438: blank.
