Description

Folios 411-412: Thomas Barclay, HMS Success. He reports his arrival at Spithead carrying 250 French prisoners from Lisbon. He expresses indignation at the condition of the prisoners when they joined the ship as most were naked and starving, having been plundered by the Portuguese and Spaniards. Major General Hope has returned to England as a passenger in HMS Success.

Folio 412: enclosed with folios 411-412. Letter dated 11 October 1812 by Charles Montague Fabian, HMS Diomede, Senior Officer, Coruna. Orders to Thomas Barclay, HMS Success that he is to proceed to Lisbon with the Malabar transport and board as many French prisoners as he can for transport to Spithead.

Folio 413: enclosed with folios 411-412. Letter dated 29 October 1812 by George Martin, HMS Impetueux, Vice Admiral of the White, Commander in Chief. Orders to Thomas Barclay to proceed to Lisbon with the transport ships Malabar and Grant and to transport French prisoners of war to Spithead.

Folio 414: enclosed with folios 411-412. Letter dated 30 June 1812 by George Martin, HMS Impetueux, Vice Admiral of the White. Sailing orders issued to Thomas Barclay, HMS Success.

Folio 415: enclosed with folios 411-412. Letter dated 29 October 1812 by George Martin, HMS Impetueux, Vice Admiral of the White, the Tagus. Order to Thomas Barclay that he carries 250 French prisoners of war from Lisbon to England.

Folio 416: enclosed with folios 411-412. Letter dated 26 October 1812 by George Martin, HMS Impetueux, Vice Admiral of the White. Thomas barclay, HMS Success, is ordered to give passage to England to Major General Hope, Lieutenant Colonel Muten, 13th Light Dragoons, Captains Brown, Chapman, Henderson, Laird, Shunan and Lieutenant Edwards.
