Hoylake Railway Company was incorporated by act of 28th July 1863. Under Hoylake & Birkenhead Railway & Tramways Act 18th July 1872, Hoylake & Birkenhead Tramway Company Limited, which had been incorporated under companies Act 1862, was dissolved and incorporated under this 1872 Act as Hoylake & Birkenhead Rail & Tramway Company, with authority to purchase Hoylake Railway Company, which authority was duly exercised.
Under Seacombe, Hoylake & Dee Side Railway Act 18th July 1881, name of Hoylake & Birkenhead Rail & Tramway Company was changed to Seacombe, Hoylake & Dee Side Railway Company.
By Board of Trade certificate dated 13th June 1883, granted under Railways Construction Facilities Act 1864 and Railways (Powers & Construction) Act 1864 Amendment Act 1870, Wirral Railway Company was incorporated.
Under Wirral Railway (Amalgamation) Act 11th June 1891, Wirral Railway Company and Seacombe, Hoylake & Dee Side Railway Company were dissolved as from 1st July 1891 and united and incorporated as a new company under name of Wirral Railway Company.
Wirral Railway Company was vested in London Midland & Scottish Railway Company as from 1st July 1923 under London Midland & Scottish Railway Absorption (No. 1) Scheme 1923 dated 14th July 1923.
