Folio 170: James Bissett, HMS Dannemark, Spithead. Encloses a letter from Captain Francis Mason of HMS Fisgard about his running down a fishing boat in the River Tagus.
Folios 171-172: enclosed with folio 170. Letter dated 9 March 1811 by Captain Francis Mason, HMS Fisgard, off the Tagus, to Captain James Bissett of HMS Dannemark. Reports running down a fishing boat. He was at dinner and the watch on deck was trimming sails and then stowing the anchor cables. The boat was not seen until it was under the bows, when the helm was put up to try to avoid a collision. He does not blame the officer of the watch or the Mate, Midshipmen and Quartermasters on the Quarter Deck. He very much regrets the accident, in which one man was drowned, and reports that a sum of money has been raised by subscription for the Portuguese crew and any family of the drowned man.
