Folio 167: Lord David Balgonie, HMS Romulus, the Nore. Encloses a letter from Purser John Bryan about the extraordinary expense of eradicating illness aboard the ship, endorses the Purser's request for an allowance.
Folios 168-169: enclosed with folio 167. Letter dated 11 April 1811 by John Bryan, Purser, HMS Romulus to Captain Lord David Balgonie. During the recent sickness on board, Doctor William Beatty, Physician to the Channel Fleet, insisted that all the ranges and stoves on board be kept burning constantly from 15 January 1811, to 9 February. Encloses a certificate from Dr Beatty. As this consumed large quantities of coal, asks for an extra allowance to cover this cost.
Folio 169: enclosed with folios 168-169. Letter dated 9 February 1811 by William Beatty, Physician to the Channel Fleet. Certifies that it was necessary to keep all the stoves aboard HMS Romulus burning continuously from 15 January 15, 1811, to 9 February to help eradicate disease.
