Folios 519-521: William Buchanan, Penrith. When he quit HMS Hecate at Madras having been appointed to HMS Malacca, Admiral Drury gave an order that John Pope, his Steward, and Thomas Bailey, his boy, should be discharged from HMS Hecate to join HMS Malacca. HMS Malacca was disposed of before he arrived in England so he placed them in Sir Charles Hamilton's flag ship, HMS Thisbe, at Woolwich. Asks for them to be discharged or granted leave of absence until he is employed again. His Steward has served nearly 8 years with him as his servant on shore and as Steward on board HMS La Fleche and HMS Hecate. The boy volunteered from Hythe. neither of them has ever been under anyone else's command.
