Folios 508-509: Volant Vashon Ballard, HMS Neptune, Cawsand Bay. John Last Thompson, Acting Lieutenant of HMS Neptune, has requested him to forward his passing certificate and the acting order given him by Sir Alexander Cochrane in consequence of his having lost his right arm and receiving an injury to his right side while Master of HMS Blonde under his command. The injuries were received when they were destroying a French privateer between 2 Batteries on the south side of Guadeloupe on 24 September 1809. Asks for the acting order to be confirmed.
Folio 509: enclosure with folios 508-509. Duplicate of Order dated 7 May 1810 from Sir Alexander Cochrane, Vice Admiral of the Blue, Commander in Chief at Barbados and the Leeward Islands, to John Last Thompson. Lieutenant John Scott (2) of HMS Statira has been removed to HMS Neptune in place of Lieutenant John Brine, who has been invalided. John last Thompson, Supernumerary Master of HMS Neptune is to be appointed to act as Lieutenant of HMS Statira.
