Description

Folios 112-113: Andrew Broun, Regulating Officer, Greenock. John Black was impressed on 18 January from the brigantine Wilton of Wokingham. He was indentured for 6 years in February 1806 and has served 4 years at sea and turned 18 last December while the indenture certificate produced shows him to be 16. As they are to go to law asks for directions.

Folios 113-114: enclosure with folios 112-113. Petition of John Thompson and William Aitcheson dated 1st February 1810 part owners of the Wilton of Wokingham presently at Greenock to the Admiralty. John Black, son of James Black, Labourer in Wokingham, was indentured as an apprentice sailor in 1806. Since he was impressed Captain Broun has refused any access to him claiming he is not entitled to be apprenticed after 18 years of age. The certificate from the clergy man at Wokingham who baptised John Black confirms that he was 16 in December.

Folio 114: enclosure with folios 112-113. Note from Joshua Heywood dated 1 February 1810 directing Captain Broun to answer the charges made against him. Further direction signed by John Mackirdy to Captain Broun to answer the petition within 3 days.
