Description

Folios 403-404: George Byng, HMS Belliquex, Bombay Harbour. Is sending copies of papers from W. Money, Acting Naval Officer, which he has sent to be transmitted to the Commander-in-Chief, He has examined his accounts and cannot but speak of him with the highest admiration of regularity and correctness.

Folios 404-405: enclosure with folios 403-404. Letter dated 12 June 1809 by W. Money, Acting Naval Officer, Bombay, to William O'Brien Drury, Rear Admiral of the Red, Commander-in-Chief. He has submitted his accounts to Commodore [George] Byng for the period 4th December 1808 to 31st March 1809 and have made a solemn deposition before the Recorder of Bombay. He wishes to express the reasons he took this Office, awarded him from Sir Edward Pellew, with the aim of benefiting the public interest. He hopes the accounts will show he has made a considerable saving in expenditure of public money, however he has been forced to use his own money in this endeavour and asks to be allowed the repayment of this and to have an allowance in the future.

Folio 406: enclosure with folios 403-404. Certificate dated 10, June 1809 by M. [Uamittoz ?], Bombay, stating the savings made in purchasing timber.

Folio 407: enclosure in folios 403-404. Statement of the expenses saved to Government from 4th December 1808 to 31st March 1809 signed by W. Money, Acting Naval Officer, Bombay.
